An hour is right for a first session. Ninety minutes is better if you already play racket sports and want to get past the first-timer flailing stage in one visit.
Ten minutes of gentle rallying, twenty minutes of working out what the walls do, and then half an hour of proper points once everyone stops apologising. Almost nobody plays only once.
